Read the last five annual reports: is revenue growing, is profit real, are dividends paid from earnings? Learn who runs the company and how long they have stayed. Understand what the company sells and who pays for it — if you cannot explain that in one sentence, keep reading before you buy. Compare the P/E with the sector, not with hope. And check how often the stock actually trades: thin volume means your exit may be slow.
